Access, Respect, Connect - Enhancing Social Participation of persons with disabilities for a diverse community (ARC)
Duration: December 2024 – July 2027
The aim of the ‘ARC’ project is to promote the participation and inclusion of persons with disabilities (PwD) in the local community life by strengthening their active citizenship and exploring disability-specific community building.
Through the project we aim to:
- increase the well-being of persons with disabilities by empowerment, skills development, the strengthening local community links, participation and engagement with the society
- increase the knowledge of supporters of persons with disabilities (professionals, volunteers, organisations) towards disability-specific community development and active person-centred support
- shape the attitude of local communities through community building events to increase local connectivity, acceptance and knowledge about persons with disabilities to foster inclusive environments using innovative sensitisation tools.
The project is carried out through inclusive implementation, participatory research, learning and development and co-creation methodologies through continuously involving the target groups in all phases, thanks to the local inclusive teams.
Project activities
- An inclusive and participatory research about the social participation of persons with disabilities, exploring good practices and community mapping tools
- Development of adult learning materials and training curriculum for the target groups in 6 languages
- Manual and toolkit for PwD – about social participation and community mapping
- Manual and toolkit for supporters – the supporters’ role in social participation, shaping attitudes through community building
- Toolkit about inclusive community mapping and accessible use
- International training opportunities for the target groups
- Local community building events organised by the project participants to engage with their neighbours and communities and shape attitudes through innovative tools
- Workshops to share the knowledge with others
